This famous view of the meanders on the River Cuckmere is actually a managed river landscape. The main river has been channelised and flows straight and direct to the sea on the far side of the valley floor. There is no real flow of water in the preserved meander loops. But they remain as a classic example of a meandering low land river as it is about to reach its mouth at the sea.
